CSU's Second Cancer Biology Program Graduate
Friday, June 25, 2010 FORT COLLINS -The Animal Cancer Center is proud to announce that Dr. Luke Wittenburg successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on Friday, June 25, 2010. Luke is the second student to graduate from the Cancer Biology Ph.D. Program at the Animal Cancer Center. Luke’s research focused on new ways to treat osteosarcoma, specifically the use of valproic acid as a means to make osteosarcoma more sensitive the effects of doxorubicin, and evaluated the safety and potential utility of this combination in dogs through a clinical trial at the Animal Cancer Center. Luke grew up in Albuquerque, NM and earned his Bachelor of Science from New Mexico State University and his DVM from CSU. He completed an internship in private practice in California. His original plan was to be an equine surgeon but after his rotation on oncology as a student shifted his focus to oncology. Luke will be starting in a Clinical Pharmacology residency at CSU – the first of its kind at CSU. Members of Luke’s Ph.D. committee included Drs. Doug Thamm, Dan Gustafson, Stephen Withrow, E.J. Ehrhart, and Pamela Munster.
