Dr. Jamie Custis
Dr. Jamie Custis is an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Radiation Oncology, having joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in the fall of 2010. Originally from Virginia, he received his Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2001. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. During his two years in a progressive small animal practice in Houston, Texas, Dr. Custis developed a particular interest in oncology. In an effort to pursue further oncologic training, he completed a one year small animal medicine and surgery internship at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2008. During his residency training in radiation oncology at the Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center, he became proficient in the utilization of new modalities such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) in an effort to improve local tumor control and decrease normal tissue side effects. His research efforts, to date, are focused upon the ongoing clinical study of stereotactic radiation therapy both as a limb sparing option for canine appendicular osteosarcoma and as novel treatment for canine nasal tumors.
