K-9's Against Cancer 5k/1k
Sunday, September 12, 2010 FORT COLLINS - Team members from the CSU Animal Cancer Center participated in the K-9's Against Cancer 5K/1K at Stapleton Central Park in Denver. Proceeds from the race benefited the CSU Animal Cancer Center (ACC), Bow Wow Buddies Foundation and the Foothills Animal Shelter. The fund for the ACC is supporting the third Bow Wow Buddies Scholar, Dr. Jenna Burton who is a 4th year Medical Oncology Resident. Previous scholars have been Dr. Scott Hafeman in support of a Cancer Biology Ph.D. and Dr. Jim Perry in support of a Medical Oncology Residency.
The weather was beautiful and approximately 300 attendees and their dogs turned up for this great fundraiser. It was also the release date for the “Survivors - Your Best Friend’s Journey with Cancer” book. It features beautiful photos and stories of canine cancer survivors most of whom are patients at the ACC. The proceeds benefit the Bow Wow Buddies Scholarship at the ACC. Author and pet photographer Jaime Rowe, with canine cancer survivors Jake and Madison, who are featured in the book, were also there to give autographs/pawd-o-graphs. There were many cancer survivors participated in the race, both human and canine with the goal to celebrate current and past patients and to help in the fight against cancer.
We will be participating again next year in this great event, hope to see you there!
